Nicky is one of life’s great travelling companions; unfailingly cheerful, clear-headed and good company. Given these characteristics it is perhaps no surprise that she originally trained as a Doctor and has practised medicine in the UK, Norway and Kenya.
However her real calling in life is to the great outdoors. Even when she specialised in Anaesthesia and Emergency Medicine, her research topics concentrated on Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine –because this allowed her to undertake diving expeditions to the Great Barrier Reef and the Phillipines!
Now she concentrates full time on organising and leading travel groups. She has accompanied expeditions to mountainous regions in many parts of the World, including: the Norwegian Arctic Circle and Lofoten Islands, French, Austrian and Italian Alps, the Tatras and Carpathians in Central Europe, and the Sierra Nevada and Rockies in America and Canada.
Nicky is also a qualified Nordic ski instructor and she spends 3 months each year teaching this skill to people from all walks of life, ranging from school children to the British Army Biathlon Team. Drawing on her medical background she also specialises in instructing on cold weather injuries and winter survival.
Along with her husband Pat, Nicky lived for 3 years in Norway where, as a Nordic Backcountry Specialist, she led numerous ski touring expeditions in the Mountains of Norway (Jotunheim, Hardangervidda, Setesdal, Sirdal, Rondane).
Now living back in the UK in the Peak District National Park, Nicky often co-leads Explorers World expeditions with Pat. They make a great leadership team; great fun, expert and inclusive.
